Posted August 10Aug 10 Stop dressing like a boy and start dressing like a grown, sexy adult man. My goal is simple. I want to help you always look amazing and be appropriately dressed. I want you always to wear an outfit that makes you feel like you’re crushing it. Today, I’m going to go over 10 rules that every man should follow to avoid looking like a little boy. Dressing stylish isn’t as hard as many guys make it out to be. Many men get caught up in the details, thinking they need to do or wear certain things. The reality is that if you focus on the basics and core principles, you will always present yourself positively and impressively. When you dress like a mature, grown, stylish man, the world is your oyster. The world opens up, and people notice. But more importantly, when you look in the mirror, you feel like THE MAN. Make people notice — in a good way! Quality over quantity. Less is more. One of the mistakes a lot of young guys make is that they buy a ton of crap. They buy like 15 t-shirts when you only need three to four. The better clothing you have, the better. Higher quality fabrics and construction. Invest in higher-quality fabrics and clothing construction. When you put something on that feels luxurious and looks premium, it appears more high-end and drapes on your body better. These fabrics should feel pleasing to the touch and also appear visually appealing. They look richer. They may cost a bit more, but it’s worth the money. You’re not buying as many so that you can focus on spending on higher-quality items. These items will also last longer. Fit is king. When you wear clothing that fits properly, you appear more attractive. You’ll look taller, leaner, and more muscular. You will look more proportionate. My shirt isn’t tailored, although it seems to be. It’s the Apex button-up from Collars and Co., which I’m obsessed with these shirts. The fabric has a lot of stretch, and the shirt fits and is tapered. It’s off the rack, but I don’t have a bunch of puddling at my wrist, and it’s simple classic perfection. The collar is rigid and stands up, and the fit is fantastic. You don’t have to get it tailored. Build a signature style. This should be like your ‘uniform.’ Are there items that you wear that you automatically know you’re killing it — and you get compliments? And you know it fits you well? These are clothes that you know you look great in, and the colors complement you perfectly. So why wouldn’t you want to wear something like this every day? Every single time you get dressed, make sure you have that personal uniform. Stop wearing clothing that is dead or worn out. This includes clothing that’s stained, unstylish, or other items that you need to discard. You may be attached to certain items that you’ve had for years. These don’t look good, and you may not even wear them. So what’s the point? You need to excommunicate items from your wardrobe once they reach the point of no return. Whether it has stains, holes, is worn out, or is showing its age, you need to get rid of it. It’s impossible to operate a wardrobe effectively and efficiently with chaos and clutter. Upgrade your accessories. Accessories separate the men from the boys. But don’t wear too many of them. Additionally, avoid wearing cheap accessories. Invest in some signature items or pieces, such as a cool ring, a great bracelet, a necklace with a subtle pendant, or a badass watch. Every man needs to watch because it sends a subliminal message that he’s reliable and responsible. It’s also a great conversation piece. Neutral base statement details. When it comes to colors, the more neutral the better; the more monochromatic, the better; the more subdued the better. Instead of opting for items that are extremely loud, patterned, and bright or bold, consider working with softer and muted colors. Carry this throughout your entire outfit except one statement piece or accessory. A softer and more neutral color palette appears more high-end and luxurious, evoking an old-money aesthetic. This tactic will set you apart from the masses of men who wear colors that are too bright, loud, or patterns that are too big. Take care of your clothing. Make sure you don’t just throw your clothes into the corner. Make sure you launder them properly as well, which may mean trips to the dry cleaner. You don’t have to dry clean your suit every time you wear it, however. Only take it if it smells or you’ve spilled something on it. You also don’t need to wash your clothing after every time. Certain items, such as your socks, gym clothes, or underwear/undershirts, should be cleaned every time they’re worn. But shirts and pants, including jeans, don’t need to be washed every single time. Just one level above everyone else. When you’re going somewhere, take it to the next level. It’s better to be overdressed than underdressed. If everybody’s wearing khakis and a button-up, throw on a sports coat. Always dress one level up, including work attire, when entering a more casual environment. Wearing a three-piece suit doesn’t make much sense. However, to dress better, opt for higher-quality fabrics and clothing that fit well. Coordinate your clothing better and layer it accordingly. Dress to be the man you want to be. Boys dress for comfort and trends. Dress for the future you. Dress in a manner that’s consistent with success, pride, power, and where you want to get to. Dressing can instantly command respect and make you be taken more seriously. You’ll get more opportunities than those who dress like they’re 18 years old. View the full article
