Vice has no shop. Death still has a door.

The edge is where the culture meets the thing that would destroy it. It is the boundary between order and chaos, between safety and threat, between life and death. Every culture has an edge. The question is whether the edge is clear, defended, and understood. Ours is.

The modern world pretends there are no edges. It pretends that everything is negotiable, that every boundary can be crossed, that every rule can be bent. That is not a culture. That is a free-for-all. A culture without edges is a culture that cannot protect itself. We protect ourselves. We know where the line is.

The availability of the thing is the cause of its use. Remove the availability, and you remove the use. Prevention is a missing aisle, not a speech.

Death still has a door. The culture does not pretend that harm does not exist. It does not pretend that everyone is good. It prepares. It watches. It acts. The guardian is allowed to keep a body from dropping. That is the only override. It is the one moment when the machine is allowed to intervene without human decision.

Who it stops

Trying to Smoke: No Pack: The holding does not stock tobacco. There is no shop. There is no supply. If you cannot buy it, you cannot smoke it. It is not a moral rule. It is a practical one. The things that kill you slowly are not invited in.
Trying to Trespass: No Gap: The fence is real. The boundary is clear. There is no gap. If you try to cross, you will be stopped. The edge is not a suggestion. It is a limit. The land is not a commons. It is a home. Respect it or stay out.
Suicide Attempt: Stop the Death: The guardian watches. It sees. It acts. If someone is trying to end their own life, the machine intervenes. It is the only override. The culture does not believe in freedom that includes the freedom to destroy yourself. The body is not yours to discard. It belongs to the holding.
Attempted Murder: Stop the Attack: The same override applies. If someone is trying to kill someone else, the machine stops them. It does not ask permission. It does not wait for a vote. It acts. The culture does not allow one person to destroy another. The edge is the protection against that.

What happens after

No jail for vice. The culture does not punish people for things it has already prevented. There is no tobacco, so there is no addiction. There is no alcohol, so there is no drunk driving. There is no shop for vice, so there is no vice to prosecute. Prevention is not punishment. It is the absence of the thing that causes the problem.

Lethal violence gets the person walked off the good map. They are not killed. They are not imprisoned. They are removed. The holding cannot contain someone who would destroy it. The edge is the boundary. Cross it, and you are no longer part of the holding. That is the consequence. It is simple. It is final. It is fair.
